O ministro da Defesa, Celso Amorim, disse ontem que o orçamento das Forças Armadas é "razoável". Em rápida entrevista no Senado, comentou a crise mundial e a realidade de corte de recursos. "Neste contexto, temos recebido razoáveis recursos para as Forças Armadas cumprirem suas funções", disse o ministro, que vive sob pressão de militares por reajuste salarial. Em abril, Amorim propôs que o orçamento da Defesa fosse equivalente proporcionalmente ao dos demais países do grupo dos Brics - Rússia, Índia, China e África do Sul - que investem em média 2% do PIB no setor militar.
Dados apresentados por Amorim mostram que o País investe 1,5% do PIB na área. Neste ano, o orçamento previsto é de mais de R$ 60 bilhões. Amorim entregou ao presidente do Senado, José Sarney (PMDB-AP), versões atualizadas dos planos de Política Nacional de Defesa e Estratégia Nacional de Defesa e o Livro Branco de Defesa Nacional. Os planos estabelecem diretrizes e ações na área militar. A entrega dos documentos ao Legislativo é uma exigência legal.

According to Chavez, it is security, defense and the development of the state that should be the main issues for the Government to further ensure national independence. “This independence, the well protected and guaranteed one, will give us a possibility to build new Venezuela, new Fatherland and to reach new horizons,” he added.
Russia is one of the main suppliers of arms to Venezuela.
The Su-35, powered by two 117S engines with thrust vectoring, combines high maneuverability and the capability to effectively engage several air targets simultaneously using both guided and unguided missiles and weapon systems.
